In Brief
Workmen challenged a domestic inquiry where they were denied legal representation. The Supreme Court held that while workmen cannot engage lawyers unless management does so, they have an unqualified right to be represented by any employee of their choice from the company or by a trade union representative. This right exists independently of, and cannot be restricted by, company standing orders. The appeal was disposed of with these clarifications.
