KIRTI VIJAYVARGIYA vs RAHUL VIJAYVARGIYA

Bench: 2 — Uday Umesh Lalit, Vineet Saran

In Brief

A young married couple (married on 28 February 2017) filed competing claims under the Code of Criminal Procedure Section 125 (maintenance) and the Domestic Violence Act. The Supreme Court referred the matter to its Mediation Centre. Both parties agreed to settle: the husband paid Rs. 11.51 lakh to the wife in full and final settlement, both withdrew all pending cases, and both agreed to annul the marriage. The Court exercised its power under Article 142 of the Constitution to annul the marriage and dispose of all related proceedings, including the pending divorce case.
