In Brief
Four ad hoc District Judges appointed to preside over Fast Track Courts sought seniority credit from their initial appointment in 2003. After four years in regular posts (appointed 2013), they challenged government orders denying this seniority claim. The Supreme Court held that ad hoc Fast Track appointments under separate statutory rules do not grant cadre membership or seniority rights. Since they were never appointed to regular cadre posts initially, they cannot claim seniority over regular appointees. However, the Court directed that their Fast Track service be credited toward pension and retiral benefits. The appeals were partly allowed.
