In Brief
The appellant purchased a residential plot from a cooperative housing society restricted to Scheduled Caste members. The Bangalore Development Authority later denied her request to restore property records ('khata') in her name, citing her non-membership in the Scheduled Caste. However, the Registrar of Co-operative Societies had previously ordered that existing members, regardless of caste, retain all member rights. The Supreme Court held the Authority's order was invalid for ignoring this binding prior directive and ruled the Authority must restore the appellant's khata.
