In Brief
A property development consortium executed development agreements with a developer for an SEZ project in Hyderabad. The original landowners later formed societies to act as co-developers. When disputes arose over the sharing of lease rents collected by one of the societies from commercial spaces, the members filed claims under the Societies Registration Act. The Supreme Court held that these disputes fell squarely within the arbitration clause of the parties' agreement and must be referred to arbitration, not adjudicated by courts under statutory provisions. The scope of arbitration clauses extends to all disputes arising from or relating to the underlying agreements.
