Malti Sahu, mother of two deceased children, challenged the High Court's acquittal of the accused Rahul in a murder case. The High Court had quashed the trial court's conviction on grounds of insufficient circumstantial evidence. The Supreme Court held that the prosecution had established multiple crucial links: the motive (harassment of the deceased), recovery of the murder weapon purchased by the accused with blood stains, recovery of a blood-stained cloth on the accused's disclosure statement containing blood of both victims and the accused, and an unexplained injury on the accused. The Court found the High Court's rejection of this evidence to be perverse and restored the trial court's conviction for murder under Section 302 IPC.
