Milan Rana, a teacher, sought regularization and all consequential benefits from her initial writ petition in 2002. A similarly-placed teacher, Harbhajan Kaur, had obtained identical relief from 2001 after her writ petition was allowed and upheld through final appellate dismissal. The High Court initially rejected Rana's claim but later granted regularization from the date of her second petition only. The Supreme Court held that Rana was entitled to full regularization with all consequential benefits from the beginning of the 2002 academic session when she initially petitioned, applying the same principle as Harbhajan Kaur's case. The appeal was allowed.
