In Brief
On 25 April 1994, a man attacked his uncle with a spade, causing a head injury. He was convicted under IPC Sections 324 and 326. The trial court sentenced him to 3 years imprisonment and a fine; the High Court reduced this to 2 years. On appeal, the Supreme Court noted that over 25 years had passed since the incident, and imprisoning him after such delay would be unjust. The Court upheld the conviction but modified the sentence to the period already served (4+ months), enhanced the fine to ₹24,000, with ₹20,000 to be paid as victim compensation."
