The appellant was convicted under Section 376(1) IPC (rape) and sentenced to seven years rigorous imprisonment with a fine of Rs. 5,000, or one year additional imprisonment in default. On appeal, the Supreme Court upheld the conviction and sentence, finding the prosecutrix's account of forced intercourse, her unconscious state immediately thereafter, and corroboration by other witnesses sufficiently proved guilt. The Court rejected the defence argument that the act was consensual or that the absence of injuries negated rape. The only modification was reducing the default sentence from one year to three months on proportionality grounds."
