In Brief
Three special leave petitions in motor accident death compensation cases were filed against High Court judgments. Two SLPs relating to deaths of Alok Jain and Kalpana Jain were dismissed as the compensation variation was within permissible limits (4-5%). In the third case concerning A.P. Jain's death, the Supreme Court intervened, reducing total compensation from Rs 14,39,980 to Rs 9,81,250 by applying a 50% deduction for personal expenses (as the claimants were adult sons with independent income and granddaughters dependent on their own parents), using the correct multiplier of 5, and awarding Rs 70,000 for love, affection, and funeral expenses per established precedent."]
