In Brief
Three accused persons were convicted by a trial court in 2004 for causing hurt and grievous injury (Sections 324, 326, 308 IPC) and sentenced to five years imprisonment with Rs. 5,000 compensation. The High Court in 2018 modified this to three years imprisonment with Rs. 25,000 compensation per offence. On appeal, the Supreme Court partly allowed the appeal for the third appellant (who had served over two years). While maintaining the conviction, the Court reduced the compensation from Rs. 25,000 to Rs. 5,000 for each offence, considering the 20-year gap since the incident, the period already served, and the appellant's financial hardship.
