In Brief
A man and woman met online and married in March 2015. Five months later, her father lodged a dowry complaint against the husband at police stations in both Hisar and Udaipur on the same allegations, just five days apart. The first complaint was lodged at Hisar, and a trial there resulted in the husband's acquittal after the complainant and victim failed to testify. The husband sought to quash the second FIR at Udaipur. The High Court refused, but the Supreme Court held this constituted abuse of process. The Court found the complainant deliberately misused his official position and that Udaipur Police knew of the earlier complaint. The second FIR was quashed with costs.
