Punjab State and others challenged an order through a Special Leave Petition against Bimla Devi. The Supreme Court found that the delay in filing the petition was condonable and granted leave to appeal. However, since connected civil appeals had already been remitted to the High Court by an earlier order dated 11 January 2017, the Court disposed of this appeal by reference to that batch judgment, without requiring fresh notice to the respondents or separate merits hearing.
