The appellant and respondent disputed matters in a civil appeal before the Supreme Court. Both parties informed the Court that they had reached a settlement. The Court initially directed the District Judge of Agra to verify whether the settlement was genuine by checking documents (cancellation deed and bank drafts) within eight weeks. The District Judge confirmed in a report dated 27 February 2017 that a genuine settlement existed between the parties. The Supreme Court therefore dismissed the appeal as infructuous because the settlement satisfied the parties' interests, making further litigation unnecessary. No costs were awarded to either side.
