An advocate, Rakesh Tiwari, was convicted by the High Court of criminal contempt for abusing, threatening and misbehaving towards a Chief Judicial Magistrate. The Supreme Court upheld the conviction, confirming that advocates, as officers of the court, must maintain high professional and ethical standards and cannot abuse or intimidate judicial officers. However, the Court modified the sentence by suspending the six-month imprisonment for three years on condition of good conduct and barring him from entering the District Courthouse for three years, after which the sentence would be remitted if no further breach occurs. The fine of Rs. 2000 was upheld.
