Ramesh Iranna Bali was accused of attempting to commit murder and related offences under IPC and the Arms Act, and was denied bail by the High Court. The Supreme Court allowed his appeal, noting that he had been in custody since May 2016 and that a co-accused with identical charges had already been granted bail. Considering the period of custody suffered and the differential treatment, the Court ordered his release on bail, subject to conditions to be imposed by the trial Court. The High Court's bail refusal order was set aside.
