In Brief
Land owners whose properties were acquired sued for compensation, arguing that the original land value had substantially increased over the years they litigated. The Supreme Court held that while land acquisition inherently causes hardship, equitable relief could be granted to serve the interests of justice and provide finality. The Court ordered allotment of alternative residential sites at no cost to most appellants in place of compensation claims, on the condition that no further litigation would be entertained. Some appellants were excluded as they had already received relief at the High Court stage.
