In Brief
Shewantabai, the widow of a deceased man whose will left his agricultural property and house to a neighbour, appealed against a High Court order dismissing her suit to challenge the will. Although the Court found the will was genuine and dismissed the challenge, it held that the widow, being an elderly and destitute woman, was entitled to maintenance. The Supreme Court enhanced the monthly maintenance to Rs. 7,500/- (from an earlier offer of Rs. 3,000/-), payable by the neighbour from the agricultural income during her lifetime, and ordered arrears from January 2011 to be paid within three months.
