Shyamali Chatterejee vs Municipal Corporation, Bhilai

Bench: 2 — Kurian

In Brief

Shyamali Chatterejee, a daily wager at the Bhilai Municipal Corporation, challenged the reduction of her compensation by the High Court following illegal termination. The Labour Court had awarded Rs. 5 lakh, but the High Court reduced it to Rs. 2 lakh. The Supreme Court found that after 15 years of service, the compensation was inadequate. The Court enhanced the award by an additional Rs. 1.5 lakh with 6% interest from termination, partly allowing the appeal and ensuring justice to the employee.
