Ram Singh, owner of a motorcycle involved in a fatal accident in March 2010, appealed against orders directing an insurance company to pay compensation to the victim's heirs and to recover the amount from him. The Motor Accident Claims Tribunal found Singh had no valid driving licence at the time of the accident. Singh produced a fake licence and allowed renewal of an expired licence only two years later. The Supreme Court dismissed the appeal, holding that Singh failed to exercise reasonable care in managing the licence requirement, which constituted a fundamental breach of the insurance policy condition justifying the recovery order against him."
