Two pharmacy colleges sought directions from the Supreme Court to compel a technical university to grant them conditional affiliation for the academic year 2020-2021 and permit their students to sit for examinations. The university had rejected their affiliation applications solely on the ground that AICTE's prescribed timeline had expired. However, the State Government had granted conditional affiliation after committee recommendations, the Pharmacy Council of India had approved both institutions, and the High Court had allowed the colleges' earlier petitions challenging the State's policy. The Court held that in pharmacy education, PCI approval and regulations take precedence over AICTE timelines, and granted the relief sought.
