The Supreme Court dismissed an appeal against a High Court order directing establishment of five Consumer Fora in Uttar Pradesh. Instead of addressing the issue state-by-state, the Court constituted a three-member Committee comprising two former judges and the Union Secretary for Consumer Affairs to comprehensively examine infrastructure, staffing, service conditions and other systemic deficiencies affecting consumer dispute redressal commissions and forums across India. The Committee will visit States, interact with officials, prepare remedial roadmaps and submit recommendations for court approval. The matter was adjourned to April 2016 for review of interim reports and further directions."
