State of UP & Ors vs Israr Ahmad & Ors

Bench: 2 — Kurian

In Brief

The State of Uttar Pradesh challenged an order by the High Court directing it to pay revised pay-scale to certain respondent employees with 12% interest. The Supreme Court held that while the revised pay-scale was justified, there was no justification for awarding interest on those revised wages. The Court vacated the interest component of the order but upheld the revised pay-scale itself, with a direction that if not yet disbursed, it be paid within three months.
