In Brief
The respondent was engaged as a registration clerk on a daily wage basis in 1991 following selection by a Departmental Selection Committee. His services were terminated, but the High Court later set aside the termination and granted consequential benefits. The Supreme Court held that the respondent remained a daily wage employee with no vested right to regularization. Although his services could not be dispensed with without a formal termination order, he was entitled only to arrears of wages on a daily wage basis, not regularization. The appeal was allowed partly, confirming daily wage status while directing payment of arrears.
