State of Uttar Pradesh vs Munna @ Deevana & Anr

Bench: 2 — Adarsh Kumar Goel

In Brief

In this criminal petition, the State of Uttar Pradesh challenged an acquittal order passed by the High Court. The Supreme Court found no grounds to interfere with the acquittal. However, the Court issued an important procedural direction: all future petitions filed in the Supreme Court against acquittal orders must mention the period of custody undergone by the accused. The Court instructed the Registry to implement this requirement. The petition was dismissed without disturbing the acquittal.
