In Brief
The Trained Nurses Association of India challenged unfair working conditions and pay disparity for nurses in private hospitals and nursing homes. The Association sought court-issued guidelines, salary parity with government nurses, and a declaration that bond systems were unconstitutional. The Supreme Court found the grievances valid but declined to issue guidelines directly. Instead, it directed the Central Government to form a Committee within four months to examine the situation and recommend improvements within six months, with a view to subsequent legislative action. The bond-related grievance was dismissed as moot, having already been abolished by the Indian Nursing Council."
