In Brief
The Supreme Court resolved a dispute over how government employees' pay should be fixed following the 6th Pay Commission. The issue was whether the multiplication factor of 1.86 should apply to the existing basic pay or the revised pay scale. The Court held that under Rule 7 of the 29 August 2008 Notification, pay must be determined by multiplying the existing basic pay as on 1 January 2006 by 1.86 and rounding to the next multiple of 10. The Court approved the Central Administrative Tribunal's view and allowed all appeals.
