A judicial officer who had been compulsorily retired after being accused of corruption and passing unlawful bail orders challenged his dismissal. The High Court found no charge of corruption was proved but did not reinstate him. The Supreme Court held that once corruption charges are cleared, a judicial officer's honour requires relief. Since he had passed superannuation age and reinstatement was impossible, the Court awarded a lump-sum compensation of Rs. 20 lakhs in lieu of back-wages, payable within six months with 9% interest thereafter, rather than entangling the case in prolonged wage calculation disputes."
