The appeal concerned the validity of a gift made by one member of a family Tarwad (a Kerala Hindu matrilineal system) to another. After partition of the Tarwad created separate thavazhy (family divisions), a member of one thavazhy challenged the gift. The Supreme Court upheld the Trial Court's findings that the gift was valid and that members of one thavazhy lack standing to object to transactions within another thavazhy following partition. The High Court's interference with these findings was set aside.
