Christian Medical College Vellore Association vs Medical Council of India and Ors

Bench: 3 — <UNKNOWN>, <UNKNOWN>, <UNKNOWN>

In Brief

Christian Medical College Vellore and allied medical colleges challenged counselling and admission procedures for their minority institution seats. The Supreme Court issued interim directions requiring: (1) college representatives to participate in state counselling to identify minority candidates; (2) 70% of seats to be filled from meritorious minority students, 30% from general category; (3) seats unfilled due to insufficient qualifying minorities to be filled from other categories by consent; and (4) merit to remain a controlling factor even for minority candidates. The matter was adjourned for further hearings on undergraduate course admissions."
