DAR-US-SLAM Educational Trust and Ors vs Medical Council of India and Ors

Bench: 2 — <UNKNOWN>, <UNKNOWN>

In Brief

Multiple educational trusts and institutions challenged medical college admission procedures. The Supreme Court issued interim directions establishing a common counselling framework for medical college admissions. Common counselling for All India Quota seats shall be conducted by DGHS, including Deemed Universities and minority-run institutions. State Quota seats shall be managed by State Governments, with minority students required to furnish proof of status and written willingness. Students admitted to Deemed Universities in the second counselling round cannot participate in further counselling. To prevent college refusal of admission, students must deposit demand drafts at counselling. Minority institutions' constitutional rights to admit their community members remain fully protected. The matter was listed for further hearing on 13 September 2017."
