DAR-US-SLAM Educational Trust and Ors vs Medical Council of India and Ors

Bench: 2 — <UNKNOWN>, <UNKNOWN>

In Brief

The Supreme Court laid down comprehensive interim directions for common counselling in medical college admissions. Common counselling for all-India quota seats must be conducted by DGHS (including deemed universities), while state quota seats are counselled by the state government. The court limited counselling to two rounds only. Students admitted through counselling cannot participate in further rounds. Crucially, the court protected minority institutions' rights to admit students from their respective communities by requiring separate merit lists and minority status verification at the time of counselling. Representatives of minority colleges must participate in counselling committees. These directions do not apply to Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Jammu & Kashmir."
