The Supreme Court dismissed two transfer petitions seeking to move writ petitions from the Madras High Court to the Supreme Court. The petitioners argued that since the same issue was already pending before the Supreme Court in a Civil Appeal (No. 2013 of 2014), the writ petitions should be transferred. The Court held that mere pendency of a related appeal before the Supreme Court is not sufficient grounds for transfer. Instead, once the Supreme Court decides the appeal, that decision can be brought to the notice of the High Court, which may then defer its writ proceedings accordingly.
