In Brief
The Delhi Development Authority challenged a High Court order declaring land acquisition proceedings lapsed. The DDA had passed an award for 1,100 square yards of land owned by Raman Grover in 1986 but never took possession. The Supreme Court upheld the High Court's decision, finding that Section 24(2) of the 2013 Land Acquisition Act requires possession to be taken within a reasonable time. Since possession had not been taken despite the 30-year gap, the acquisition proceedings were deemed to have lapsed, protecting the landowner's rights.
