In Brief
Delhi Development Authority appealed against a dismissal of land acquisition proceedings. The Supreme Court dismissed the appeal, finding the issue already decided against the Authority in two prior judgments. However, recognising the peculiar circumstances, the Court granted the Authority a one-year period to reinitiate acquisition proceedings under Section 24(2) of the Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act, 2013. If no fresh proceedings are initiated within this period, the Authority must return possession of the land to its original owner.
