In Brief
The Delhi Development Authority appealed dismissals of land acquisition proceedings that violated the Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act, 2013. The Court dismissed the appeals as the issues were already settled by prior judgments. However, in view of the circumstances, the Court granted DDA one year to initiate fresh acquisition proceedings under Section 24(2) of the Act. If DDA fails to initiate fresh proceedings within this period, it must return possession of the land to the original owner.
