In Brief
Delhi Development Authority appealed against the High Court's order that land acquisition proceedings had lapsed due to non-payment of compensation to land owners. The Supreme Court dismissed the appeal, confirming that non-payment results in lapse under Section 24(2) of the RFCTLARR Act, 2013. However, considering the peculiar circumstances, the Court granted the Authority six months to initiate fresh acquisition proceedings under Section 11. Failure to do so would require it to return physical possession to the original land owners.
