Delhi Development Authority vs Maharaj Singh and Ors

Bench: 2 — Kurian

In Brief

The Delhi Development Authority appealed a dismissal of its land acquisition proceedings. The Supreme Court held that the legal issue was already decided against DDA in two prior cases. The appeal was dismissed, but the Court, considering the peculiar facts, gave DDA one year to restart acquisition proceedings by issuing a formal Notification under the LARR Act, 2013. If DDA fails to do so within this period, it must return the land's physical possession to the original owner. No costs were awarded.
