In Brief
The Supreme Court dismissed appeals filed by the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) challenging land acquisition decisions. The Court held that the acquisition proceedings had lapsed because they were not completed within the statutory period required by the Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act, 2013. However, the Court granted DDA one year to initiate fresh acquisition proceedings under Section 11 of the Act if it chose to do so. If DDA failed to start new proceedings within that year and remained in physical possession, it was ordered to return the land to the original owners.
