Dharam Singh vs Punjab State Electricity Board and Ors

Bench: 2 — Kurian

In Brief

Dharam Singh, a former daily-wage worker at Punjab State Electricity Board, sought recognition as having completed 2555 days of work-charge service for appointment as Assistant Lineman. Though initially terminated in 1986, a Labour Court awarded him reinstatement with continuity of service in 1994. The Board later converted his status to work-charge employee. The Supreme Court, finding that the Board admitted these facts, held that Singh satisfied the 2555-day requirement and directed the Board to consider him qualified for Assistant Lineman appointment. The appeal was allowed.
