Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd appealed against an interim order from the Allahabad High Court in a tax matter (Writ Tax No. 24 of 2016). The Supreme Court granted leave and, after noting the contentious nature of the dispute, directed the High Court to expedite the final disposal of the writ petition preferably within one year. The Court maintained its own interim order requiring status quo regarding the tax demand, to remain operative until the High Court finally disposed of the case. No costs were awarded.
