Jashoda Kumari Pradhan & Anr vs Divisional Manager

Bench: 2 — Anil R. Dave

In Brief

In this workers' compensation case, the Supreme Court considered whether legal heirs of a deceased workman were entitled to interest on compensation. The Assistant Labour Commissioner had awarded Rs. 3,06,180 plus 12% per annum interest to the heirs. The High Court deleted the interest provision. The Supreme Court set aside the High Court's decision and restored the original award, finding no justification for denying interest. The respondent insurance company was directed to pay the full amount with interest within eight weeks. The appeal was disposed of as allowed.
