Lalitha R Nath and others appealed against a Kerala High Court order that partially allowed Kannur Medical College's writ petition by quashing reopening notices issued by the Admission Supervisory Committee. The dispute arose from the College's admission of 150 MBBS students in 2016-17 in violation of centralized counselling norms. The Supreme Court had previously ordered (29 August 2018 and 4 October 2018) that the College refund double the fees collected to each student and directed the ASC to examine disputed amounts. The Court held that the High Court erred in quashing notices to 92 students without hearing them. It allowed the appeals, set aside the High Court's orders, and required the College to deposit Rs. 15,72,89,020 (undisputed amounts) plus Rs. 25 crores as security before seeking affiliation and admissions, with the ASC to determine remaining claims within nine months.
