In Brief
The Land & Building Department of Delhi challenged dismissal of its acquisition proceedings. The Supreme Court dismissed the appeal, as the same issue had already been decided against the Delhi Development Authority in prior cases. However, the Court granted a one-year grace period to initiate fresh acquisition proceedings under Section 24(2) of the Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act, 2013. If no new proceedings are initiated within that period, the Department must return the land to the original owner.
