A convicted criminal appealed his conviction through successive special leave petitions (SLPs) to the Supreme Court via his advocates. After the first SLP was dismissed in April 2024 with an order to surrender within two weeks, the same advocates filed an identical second SLP in November 2024 challenging the same judgment, omitting disclosure of the earlier dismissal. The Court found this constituted contempt of court and misconduct by the advocates. The two-judge bench diverged sharply: Justice Trivedi held the advocates guilty and suspended one for one month while imposing costs on the other. Justice Sharma, emphasizing forgiveness as the root of dharma, accepted their unconditional apology and warned them instead. The case was placed before the Chief Justice for final orders.
