In Brief
The Supreme Court addressed a jurisdictional dispute in an industrial termination case. An employee originally hired at Aurangabad was transferred to Pondicherry and later terminated when the Pondicherry unit closed. The Labour Court at Aurangabad had entertained his complaint, but higher courts struck it down for lack of territorial jurisdiction since termination occurred at Pondicherry. The Supreme Court reversed this, holding that both Labour Courts at Aurangabad and Pondicherry have concurrent jurisdiction. Since the management's decision to terminate originated at Aurangabad (the seat of management and registered office), the Aurangabad court had legitimate jurisdiction despite the termination taking place elsewhere. The case was remitted for substantive consideration.
