In Brief
Dr. Narottam Mishra sought special leave to challenge the transfer of a writ petition from the Madhya Pradesh High Court concerning his status as a state legislator. The Supreme Court, noting the urgency as Dr. Mishra's eligibility to vote in the presidential election scheduled for 17 July 2017 depended on the outcome, transferred the writ petition to the Delhi High Court and directed that hearing commence on 13 July 2017. The parties were asked to present the petition directly to the Delhi High Court's Acting Chief Justice, with liberty to request expedited constitution of a bench, even extending into the weekend if necessary.
