In Brief
After Chhattisgarh separated from Madhya Pradesh in 2000, the new State sought to prepare a fresh First Register of Pharmacists by constituting a Registration Tribunal. The Madhya Pradesh Pharmacists Association challenged this, and the High Court prohibited renewal of registrations not entered in the new First Register. The Supreme Court allowed the appeal and held that the First Register prepared by the erstwhile Madhya Pradesh automatically becomes the First Register for Chhattisgarh, bifurcated by territorial nexus. No fresh First Register needs preparation, and the Registration Tribunal was invalid. Chhattisgarh's Pharmacy Council may renew registrations of pharmacists with addresses in its territory from the original register.
