The Supreme Court upheld the admission of 18 students beyond the 40-seat sanctioned capacity for Bachelor of Siddha Medicine and Surgery (BSMS) in 2015-2016, and 39 students in 2016-2017. The Central Government had initially refused approval after the CCIM conducted an inspection in November 2018, arguing that it could not assess infrastructure for past academic years. The Court held that since the inspection showed no serious deficiencies and the admissions were contingent on such inspection, the students must be permitted to complete their examinations and have results declared. The order was limited to these peculiar circumstances and not treated as precedent."
