Shakuntalabai etc vs Union of India & Others

Bench: 2 — <UNKNOWN>, <UNKNOWN>

In Brief

The Supreme Court heard appeals challenging a High Court judgment on land compensation in Karnataka. Land from Taj Sultanpur village was acquired five years after an earlier acquisition in the same area. The Court adopted the High Court's methodology: taking the earlier compensation (Rs. 129.95 per sq. ft.) as a base value and applying 10% annual enhancement. For five years, this yielded a 50% total increase. The Court awarded Rs. 195 per sq. ft. for the later acquisition, allowing the appeals without costs.
